Albert, I am working, somewhat sporadically, on the McDonald line in Sumter County. I have what I think is a good deal of info. Seems William Samuel came to AL from SC with his in-laws, the Lavenders, Some of whom settled in Sumter Co., some in Greene. If I can help, let me know. If you have anything of interest, I'd be glad to hear from you. Thanks, Buster McDonald
I am working on the subject names in Sumpter County. All were in Sumpter County before 1840. I would like to hear from anyone working on these lines. Al Willard
I am researching Thomas Johnson/Johnston who married Martha J. Haskins in Sumter Co., AL 31 Dec 1855. Their children were Francis Glover b. 1857, I believe their were two other siblings James b. 1856 and Thomas H. b. about 1860. Thomas Johnson/Johnston was born about 1834 and died some time between 1860 and 1870. Does anyone have information about his ancestors or siblings?? After Thomas Johnson's death, Martha J. Haskins remarried J. N. Lovelady. Martha Haskins was the daughter of Ginny Jane Culverhouse and Thomas Haskins. I have more information on her line. Nan
Hi Joan Actually, I have almost nothing on her. She was probably born somewhere around 1830, married Joshua A Carroll in 1850 in Sumter County, and seems to have died between 1870-1880. This would actually be a side line for me, not a direct one. Joshua was brother to Jacob P Carroll who is my direct line. It was more of a curiousity than anything else. I am looking for the parents of John Phillip(s) Wilkinson who was born in Sumter County Oct. 20, 1840. In 1861 he was in Vicksburg, MS., where he enlisted in Wirt Adams MS Cavalry with which he served throughout the war. Following discharge he apparently returned to Gainesville and then migrated to Walker County, Texas. He had a sister, Rhoda, who also was in Walker County after the war. Wilkinson married Sarah Jane Foster, whose sister married Joshua Leonidas Wilkerson (note difference in spelling) who served with John W. although he enlisted in Mississippi in 1863. He also returned to Gainesville after discharge, according to his service record. Would be interested in connecting to any of these three, and especially their parents. love joan

I'm researching the following surnames in Sumter County and surrounding counties. Bostick, Newton, Turner, Jones, Little, Hill, Cain, Hibbler, Johnson Thea Burress
I have records of some 200+ elections in Sumter County during the early to mid 1800s that show an S. M. Adams voted at Gainesville twice in 1861. No record of a Sol, Saul or S. Adams voting anywhere else in the county. While this may be helpful in determining where Sol or Saul Adams lived, please keep in mind that these records are not complete. There were, obviously, many more elections in the county from which we have no record. A John Rogers lives at Gainesville now. He is descended from the earliest Rogers to inhabit the county. Joe Stegall
If anyone in Sumter Co. has time to look up something on any RODGERS I would appreciate it. These RODGERS are from York, Edna, Butler, Mobile Thanks for anything. Don RODGERS

I was acquainted with a Virginia Savage from Cuba when I lived in Sumter County, but I am not familiar with the incident to which you refer. I will contact some folks in Sumter County who should remember the incident and any role that Virginia Savage played in the care of Will McElroy's children. But, seems to me that if your sister has evidence of forgery by Mrs. Savage, you should consult an attorney. Joe Stegall
