Hi Lynda, Thanks for the reply. The fartherest I can go back with good documentation is John Willis Thorn who was my gggrandfather. He died in November, 1851 before my ggrandmother, Mary Elizabeth Thorn, was born in May, 1852. His wife, Susan Elizabeth Loftin, remarried when my ggrandmother was about three and shortly moved to Texas. I don't know who raised my ggrandmother. According to some papers I have, written by my grandmother, John Willis was the son of Thomas, the son of James, the son of Captain Thorn. This document looks like it was intended to be a registration to the Dawes Commission, but I don't beleive it was filed or accepted. Some of my cousins researching this line have found the North Carolins connection and decided that the Thorns came to Alabama after that. Do you have any information on where Captain Thorn came from? I would like to know what you have and will gladly share what little I know. Al Willard
Hi Al-- I copied some information on Capt. Jesse B. Thorne b. 1785 m. Johanna Brashears in the York, Sumter Co., Library. It would be easier for me to send you the material than try to explain how Capt. Jesse B. Thorne fits in with the rest of the Thornes!! The truth is that I don't know!! All of the Thornes listed on the 1850 Sumter Co., census were in Mississippi, Louisiana, or Texas by 1860 with the exception of Jesse B. Thorn b. 1812 m. 30 Oct 1830 Wake, NC. 1st Jerusha Beavers m. 6 Jan 1872 Baldwin, Alabama 2nd Amanda Bartlett Holder. I am very interested to know how you descend from the Thorns!! E-mail me and I will send you what I have!! Look forward to hearing from you!! Lynda Greene Allen
Old family documents indicate an ancestor named Captain Thorn. He is supposed to have been maried to, or the son of, a daughter of one of the leaders of the Choctaw nation. From the number of generations cited back to Captain Thorn, he would have been in the area of the Choctaw nation before 1800, but I have not been able to find any records of any Thorns in the area before the 1830's. Does anyone have any info that might help? Al Willard
Dear Joe, Are the GIBSON'S and/or BRECKENRIDGE'S mentioned in Mrs. Nelle Jenkin's book, by chance? Thanks for any info. Gail Thompson gjthomp@aol.com

Dear Lynda, I am so excited. I have for years been trying to find information on my great grandmother's (Meantha) parents. She was such a wonderful lady. I remember her as such a loving person. She would read the Bible, sing hymns and talk to us children. I have movies and photographs of her. If you have more to share I would be most grateful. I will pay for any copies and shipping too. Are we connected in any way? Barbara LawBarbara@aol.com

Tom Gregory, I was born and reared in Sumter County, along with your first cousins, Alice and Mary Louise Simms. Your best source of information on your Gregory, Amason, etc. relatives there, except for courthouse records, would probably be Mrs. Nelle Jenkins' book, Pioneer Families of Sumter County. I have a copy of that book and would be willing to do lookups for you. Joe Stegall
Hello list I'm looking for Brook relatives. My husband's g grandmother Nina Lucy (BROOKS) Spencer was born in Albama April 19, 1867. Her father was John D. BROOKS. According to Nina's death certificate her father was also born in Alabama. It lists Nina's mother as unknown. Maybe she died when Nina was a baby. It is said that she was orphaned and raised by her aunt Mary Staten/Staiten (unsure of the spelling). Nina married J.W. Spencer and eventually moved to Overton, Smith Co., Texas where she died January 1949. I believe that Nina and her husband came to Texas at about 1890. But finally settled in Smith Co., Texas about 1911. I would love to find this group of people. I have slammed into this huge wall and can't get past it. Is there anyone out there that might be related? Love to hear from ya:) Rhonda
