Thanks to whoever wrote me with the answer in reply to the St. Clair board query (see below). For some reason your post didn't come thru, but came mixed up in var. other requests & queries in the list digest. My GGM was Mary Elizabeth "Eliza" Dean Carden (12/12/1816,TN - 8/1/1894,Shelby Co,AL). Her father was Jacob Dean and I believe that he came from NC via GA then into St. Clair,AL around the time of statehood (12/1819). That part seems incongrous to me though, bc/I didn't think that those Indian lands on the east side of AL were settled at that time by anyone except the Indians of the Creek & Cherokee tribes. Actually I read that Indians didn't really 'live' in east AL at that time either, but used that land for hunting only.
