This was in the St. Clair Times, St. Clair Co. AL., Thursday Dec.7, 2006. Dewell Crumpton Cook Springs--Dewell Crumpton, 71, died at his home Dec. 2, 2006 with his family by his side. He attended Ramsey High, won several state high school track records earning a scholarship as an athlete with the University of Alabama. He went on to teach, coach and serve in the U.S. Army as a Ranger, Paratrooper, and Ranger Instructor. He worked in the business community for the last three decades of his life. He continued to volunteer his time coaching youth, mentoring past and future national champions until his last days. He will be honored and remembered by his loving wife, Faye; and children, Keith, Kraig, Kelli; and his loyal dog Tessa. He left behind caring and supportive siblings: a loving brother, Mark and wife Kim; issters, Carolyn and husband Dick, Dorothy and husband Bill; and his mother Mary A Crumpton. His family included seven grandchildren: Hannah and Holly, Samara, Sabrina and Adam, Savannah and Alaina; as well as may wonderful nieces,nephews and friends. A Special thank you to the Cook Springs Baptist Church and all the loving friends and track families for their continued support. The family thanks Community Hospice for their patience and care. In his honor, the family request in lieu of flowers, that all contributions be made to the Cook Springs Baptist Church, P.O. Drawer A, Cook Springs, AL 35052. The service was held at Cook Springs Baptist Church on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 11 a.m. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds dierected the service.
