This was in the St. Clair Times, St. Clair Co. AL., Thursday Dec.7, 2006. Brooks Cleveland Leeds-- Brooks Cleveland, age 86, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006. He grew up in Centreville, Alabama, and was a graduate of Livingston State Teachers College. He served as a Marine in WWII with his last assignment on the Samoan Islands. Early employment was with Continental Gin Co. Later he worked and retired from U.S. Pipe Company as a piping engineer. Active in church activities, he was a deacon, usher, and training union secretary at Central Park Baptist Church. After moving to Leeds, he joined First Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and was very active for many years working with Carpenters for Christ building and repairing churches. He designed the first living Christmas tree at First Baptist Church and for many years used his building skills for civic projects and helping other people. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 yers, Jackie Miles Cleveland; two daughters, Linda Cleveland Ticer (Robert) of Denver Colorado and Lee Cleveland Bohn (Louis)of Alpharetta, Ga; one granddaughter, Brooke Tucker of Orlando, FL. Services were held in Leeds at Kilgroe Funeral Home on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. with burial in Cedar Groove Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were the Deacons of First Baptist Church. Pallbearers wre Jack Courson, Hal Poe, Randy Ray, Bob Forman, Jimmy Moore and Doug Clark. Memorials may be made to the Carpenters for Christ Fund or the Lottie Moon offering at Leeds First Baptist Church. Special thanks to Lisa Mock, Tabitha Fisher, and Barbara Reed Hughes for their constant love, concern and professional care. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds directed the services.
