He was born June 11, 1932, in Winfield, Alabama to Arthur Augustus and Myrtle Herron Burgess. He graduated from Winfield High School, attended Florence University and graduated from University of Tennessee School of Medicine in 1957. He interned at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville and began his medical career in Springville in 1958 where he practiced until 1983. > > He moved to Sylacauga in 1987 and established a practice in Childersburg.
