Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YS.2ADE/605 Message Board Post: The 1859 census for District 39 of St. Clair County, AL; Household Number 183 lists a Henry Smith, His wife, Malinda Smith and children, Elizabeth, Calvin and Andrew. They are my GGGGrandparents. Henry Smith and Malinda Dunman were married in St. Clair County on 7 Jan 1844. Also listed in Household 186 is a Michael Dunman and his wife, Elizabeth and children. I believe they are the parents of Malinda Dunman Smith but haven't been able to prove it. Also Household 171 shows a John Smith and his wife and children. John was born in North Carolina but his wife and children were born in South Carolina. Henry was also born in South Carolina I'm wondering if John and wife are Henry's parents? Any help would be appreciated. Willard Evans

Dear List, As is often the case when a Message Board Post is gatewayed to the mailing list, I posted my response to the list and not on the board. Others responding apparently hit Reply All on my response to the post and I received a copy to my email address along with a copy from the list, but the person posting apparently did not. Many people who post to the message boards do not subscribe to the Rootsweb-L. Since there has been no acknowledgement of any of the responses on the list, I am not sure the person who made the request for Pell City information, cvs_jnetthompson@yahoo.com, is aware that she did get suggestions. I did copy that person with this message so that if he/she does not subscribe to the list, they can go to the Archives and read the suggestions. I will try to be more aware of gatewayed posts in the future! Recently I discovered a Newspaper article written by The Atlanta Constitution Newspaper Issue of Mar 5 1894, which announced the beginning of a Newspaper SPRINGVILLE in St. Clair County known as The Spring Lake Herald with W. These newspapers might provide some good pictures and articles if you can find them archived somewhere. There is a picture of the old schoolhouse in Pell City in the 1957 paper I have, but the article says it had just been torn down to make room for the new courthouse, so it probably wouldn't help you with your current project. Try to find a book titled "Snapshots in time:Pictorial History of St. Clair County" which was published by the St. Clair Historic Development Commission. Check with either the Pell City library, St. Clair Co. courthouse in Ashville, or with the St. Clair Historical Society. The picture book includes photos of all old schools in Pell City and the rest of St. Clair. The school that was torn down for the courthouse was the old Pell City High School. Charles Moore Also- Have you read "The History of St. Clair County" by Mattie Louise Teague Crowe. She was THE historian of our county. This book is out of print but is in any local library.
