Most marriage records are on the computer in the heritage room in the courthouse in Ashville. The room also has a wide variety of books and other records. The people in there can assist you with searches. Joe Whitten has compiled most of the birth, marriage, and death notices from local papers from the time period you mention into books that are also available in the courthouse. Fisher was born in about 1876, at what I think was the Phillips Plantation. His mother was a slave, Nancy, his father was the plantation owner. Fisher and Hattie had 12 children, of which 3 are living today. I located a picture, at the courthouse a few years ago of 2 Phillips Plantations. One in Ashville, and the other in Oneonta I think. I know that one of the homes was owned by James Madison Phillips. Maybe this name will lead to something. They were brothers.

Would anyone know if there's a record of any disease epidemics in St. Clair Co. around 1824-1829 time frame? My 3Gr-G.Parents CARDEN might've died there bet.1825-1829 time frame and I'm trying to 'get a fix' on where they might've been for sure. Their deaths left my 2GR-G.F.(age 5-9) & his sister to be adopted by their LYON grandparents in Shelby Co,AL Orphan's Court on 1/1/1830. John (hus./o-Sophia) LYON had patented land in 1824 & 1826 in St. Clair Co.; then in Shelby a couple of yr. later. He obviously ended up settling in Shelby Co. by 1830 and was on the census there until his death just after 1850. Thanks for any help or tips where to look... Martha

Hi Susan, LANGFORD (with a G) is sometimes spelled LANKFORD (with a K). There were several LANGFORD families in St. Clair County. I don't know of a MASHBURN in my line of LANGFORDs. But I don't know who all of my LANGFORDs married. The St. Clair County LANGFORDs in my line that I've identified are: Champion LANGFORD -- married Elizabeth REED (my GGG-grandparents) Children: Malinda -- married Joseph Henry MEANS Nancy Avaline -- married Thomas J. BRADFORD, George W. SELLERS Mary Caroline "Polly" Sally Elizabeth Terressa Elizabeth Jane -- married Robert M. JONES Champ (the only son with 6 sisters) -- married Elizabeth Jane HAGOOD (my GG-grandparents) If you find that one of your MASHBURNs did marry one of my LANGFORDs, please let me know. Thanks. Also, John m Jane Smith ca l830-l832 and I can't find that. Of course they may not have married in St Clair. A Smith family was listed either family # 231 or page #23l. I failed to write down the Smith family name. Thanks to anyone who can help me. Lajuan Pruett Boyle
