I had just about given up on finding Enoch in the census before 1860. Based on your post, I found him as Enoch Faunt in the 1850 census of Cherokee County, AL. I am descended from a son of Enoch, Doc Fant (maybe Enoch D.) from his second wife whose name was Caroline. I would be happy to share the info I have. Contact me directly at [email protected]

Enoch & Margaret Fant were living in Cherokee Co, AL in 1850 with two children. By 1860 Enoch is widowed & living in Broomtown, GA next door to John & Nancy Fant......surely related - possibly brothers? Enoch is still in Broomtown in 1870 & has remarried. I believe Enoch's son, John Fant, to be my grgrgrandfather. Mattie Fant b 1875 St. Clair Co was the dau of John Fant & Elizabeth Helton. Mattie's parent died when she was young & she was raised by a Woods family in St. Clair Co, AL. Mattie m John H. Ball b Chattooga Co, GA in 1869. This same couple, David & Elizabeth Johnson Woods, kept my grandmother for a while after Mattie died in 1902. I've just recently learned that Elizabeth Johnson Woods was Elizabeth Helton's aunt. Hopefully, we can share information. Thx, Mary Wise
