    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Moore, Partain, Pitts Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YS.2ADE/641 Message Board Post: Seeking absolutely ANY information about the families of Jonas J. MOORE and Charles R. PARTAIN. Jonas MOORE was in St. Clair county at the time of the 1900 census. He said he was born January 1869 in Alabama, and both his parents were born in Alabama, but we know how accurate these census birthplaces can be. His wife was Sarah E(?), born March 1874 in Georgia, and both her parents born in Georgia. It's been suggested that Sarah's surname was PITTS, but so far there's no proof. According to the census, Jonas and Sarah had been married 11 years (abt. 1889) but I've not been able to find a marriage record. They probably married in either St. Clair, Blount or Jefferson county. In 1900 their children were: Minet D. (son, b. March 1889 Alabama), William D. (b. March 1891 Alabama), Marshall T. (b. April 3, 1893 Alabama), Joseph M. (b. April 1896 Alabama), Cordelia (b. November 1897 Alabama) & Osie D. (b. November 1899 Alabama). Jonas & Sarah's son, Marshall Thomas MOORE, filled out his WWI draft registration card in St. Clair County on 5 June 1917. He said he was married and had one child. His employer was C.R. PARTAIN of Rt. 3, Ashville, and Marshall said he was born in Ashville in St. Clair county. Marshall was married to C.R. PARTAIN's daughter. C.R. was Charles R. PARTAIN, and his wife was named Mary T. The daughter that married Marshall MOORE was named Florence L. In 1900 the PARTAINs were on the Jefferson County census. I can't find Marshall MOORE, Jonas MOORE or Charles PARTAIN anywhere in Alabama in 1910, and I can't find Jonas MOORE anywhere prior to 1900. I can't find any record of any marriages for any of these folks in Alabama, either, although it appears they all married in the state. I'm at a complete loss and would welcome any help at all. I will share anything I have on these lines. Thanks!

    3. Thanks to whoever wrote me with the answer in reply to the St. Clair board query (see below). For some reason your post didn't come thru, but came mixed up in var. other requests & queries in the list digest. My GGM was Mary Elizabeth "Eliza" Dean Carden (12/12/1816,TN - 8/1/1894,Shelby Co,AL). Her father was Jacob Dean and I believe that he came from NC via GA then into St. Clair,AL around the time of statehood (12/1819). That part seems incongrous to me though, bc/I didn't think that those Indian lands on the east side of AL were settled at that time by anyone except the Indians of the Creek & Cherokee tribes. Actually I read that Indians didn't really 'live' in east AL at that time either, but used that land for hunting only.
