This obituary was taken from the St. Clair Times, Thursday August 31, 2006. Lillie Ann Briscoe Arab--Lillie Ann Briscoe, 51, went to be with her Lord Thursday, Aug. 17, at Huntsville Hospital. She was born Aug. 24, 1954, in the old Arab Hospital to J.B. & Edith Briscoe. She attended Auburn University where she met Richard Ervin Robbins and they were married at Ruth Baptist Church in Arab on June 15, 1975. They were in the U.S. Army stationed at Redstone Arsenal and moved to Arab in 1980. She was a homemaker, custom seamstree in her business "The Fitte Shoppe" where she designed and made dance, drum major, color guard costumes and pageant dresses. Lillie Ann designed and made an Alabama State Flag that was 40 x 60 yards which was used by Arab High School and the University of Alabama Million Dollar Marching Band during half time performances. She loved to read, work on the farm with her cows, cut hay and help her brother, Raymond, in his chicken houses. She had fought many valiant battles with cancer and other medical complications in Arab, Birmingham, & Houston, TX, hospitals since 1996. She chose to be a fighter with a smile on her lips for her family, fri! ends and visitors. She is survived by her beloved husband Richard Ervin Robbins; daughter, Vona Sue Robbins; son-in-law, D.J. Harris; grandchildren, Richard John Michael Harris and Dakota Rei Harris; father, J.B. Briscoe; mother, Edith Briscoe; brother, Raymond Dale Briscoe, sister- in-law, Martha Robbins Chesser of Douglasville, Ga; Jerri Lynn Briscoe of Arab; brother-in-law Carl W. My grandmother, Martha Louise, was born June 1, 1934 in St. Clair County. Her father's name is Joseph Albert Galbreath. He is listed as a miner and 29 (hard to read age) on the date of June 1, 1934. He was born in St. Clair County, AL. ( I don't know the date of death, but he was dead long before I was born in 1975.) Lillian Ferguson was born in Jefferson County, AL and was born Dec 4, 1910. I know that date for certain. She is listed as a housewife. She married Ben Horsley (no dates known) after Albert's death.

Around the turn of the century ( 1800's) Robert Means married Isabella Fields (her parents were Galbreaths). They married in Campbell county va. They moved to Tenn. Rhea county where Robert died in 1822. Galbreath relatives moved to tenn too. After Robert died Isabella and many small children moved to St. Clair county alabama. Other Galbreath relatives moved there too.The current mayor of Gadston Alabama is Steve Means, his grandfather was John Galbreath Means ( born in tenn but died in St. Clair. By 1850 many of Isabella's now grown children married and moved on to Calhoun county arkansas and Texas , but some including John G. stayed in St. Clair.
