I understand there is also A Blount Co Tidmore Bend, also. Yes, I have been in touch with Kay about the Braswell Family and I am pretty much convinced that the name Is Braswell. I just joined this list and am wondering if I have any cousins out there. My grandmother was Mary Jane TIDMORE, daughter of William (?) TIDMORE and Ethel ABEL. Mary Jane was born 1920 in Nectar, Blount County. Ethel ABEL is the daughter of Moses ABEL and Leatha GARREN; both died in Nectar. Moses ABEL is the son of Robert McHenry ABEL and Susan CLAYTON. Robert McHenry ABEL is the son of Moses ABEL and Elizabeth MCHENRY. Susan CLAYTON is the daughter of Littleberry CLAYTON and Sarah RATLIFF. Leatha GARREN is the daughter of Thomas Burgen GARREN and Mary GRIFFITH. Thomas Burgen GARREN is the son of Absolom GARREN and Winifred SUTTON. Mary GRIFFITH is the daughter of John Wiles (Wiley) GRIFFITH and Hannah M. SPENCER. I have more on these lines and would love to trade information with any of you!!! If you have any corrections, I'd love those also! I'm looking for information on my TIDMORE line as I am trying to either prove or dispel the story I have been told. I really know nothing of my particular TIDMORE line- although I have done extensive research on the TIDMORE family in general and am in the process of entering the documentation I've found so far. Please let me know if you're interested and I'll be happy to share the census and other information I've been able to gather. My grandmother, Mary Jane TIDMORE, died in 1966 and her mother, Ethel ABEL, died in 1984 so my sources for information are limited to those who might have known them or the family. From what I've been told, my grandmother didn't really know her father. We were told that his name was William TIDMORE and he apparently died either right before her birth or shortly thereafter. I can find no records for a marriage for Ethel and William (assuming they were married). I can't find a death record in that time frame for William either. We were told that his family owned a sawmill or logging company and that he was killed in a logging accident. I've been comparing census records from 1900 to 1920 to see if I can find any dissappearing William's, but I have found nothing yet. (I just began this project). I was told by Mary Jane's half-sister that after William died, the TIDMORE grandparents offered to care for Mary Jane, but Ethel refused. Instead, she answered a classified ad and ran off to San Francisco where she married a man named John Charles SCHNELL. Mary Jane was raised as a SCHNELL and I don't believe she ever was able to meet her TIDMORE side of the family, which is unfortunate. In doing the research I have and from the online relationships I have developed, I have come to really love this line! Does anyone know a TIDMORE family that was involved in the LOGGING industry around 1920, possibly located in or around Blount County? I know there were some TIDMORE's in Hanceville that operated a COAL mining industry of some kind (TIDMORE COAL), but the name of the company and an old newspaper ad is all I have on them. I wonder if my aunt might have confused the story and it might have been a coal mining accident instead. (Or perhaps my great-grandmother didn't want the truth to be known so my grandmother wouldn't try to find her father. She has been known to be a little impetuous- but I love her anyway!) I do have more on some of the other lines (especially SUTTON and GARREN) that I would love to share/compare with any cousins. I look forward to hearing from you all. Have a GREAT day!!! 3. Tricia- Looks like we're running in the same circles! I didn't know there was a Tidmore Bend in Blount. (Probably Henry Middleton's property) I'll see if I can find information on that. I have seen the census' of Etowah at Tidmore Bend- they all stayed pretty close for awhile there. I saw a picture of some real estate for sale there while I was googling the name Tidmore one day. What a pretty area! I'm so glad Kay contacted the Tidmore lists. The Tidmore's all seem to be so helpful. I love the way everyone works together to find all the facts. I look forward to seeing what she has on her Braswell lines. Thank you so much for all your help! Do you have the census' for your family in the Etowah area? I have a few of them transcribed if you don't and I'll be happy to send them to you. I'll see what else I have also, although you probably have a lot more than I do. Have a GREAT day!!! 3. Tricia- As far as I have found almost all the Tidmore's I've run into are descendants of Henry and Nancy. Speaking of Nancy, I just got an email the other day that stated her last name was "Braswell" rather than Brazeale or any variation. The person who posted the message has documentation that she was going to be sending out some estate papers that included the earlier Tidmore lines of John and Henry as heirs. I'll forward anything I hear from her on to you if you'd like. I would love to swap info with you! Are you a descendant? Please let me know where you come in! Thanks so much!!!! 3. I found out as I followed some of these family threads and had a lovely email correspondence with Steve Means the mayor of Gadston ala. He is descendent from one of these Means siblings I referrened in my previous summary. While several siblings moved on to Arkansas, several stayed behind, including his ancestor, John G and Jane Key Means. Now ST. Clair and Etowah are crawling with Means:-) I am on the hunt though for the grave site of all of the mother of all of these siblings, Isabella Fields Means. She supposedly died in 1840-60s and is buring somewhere in Etowah.county the best I can figure. If I can pin down her death date better I'll post for more specific help. And Bill....I have a little more information for you which I am trying to dig up and post. sherrie ----- Original Message ----- From: "Delilah" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, November 01, 2006 12:55 PM Subject: Re: [ALSTCLAI] Thomas Langford,Lankford > There were MEANS in Etowah County, Al., still have some there, the Mayor. > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Bill Allen" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Cc: <[email protected]> > Sent: Wednesday, November 01, 2006 3:12 AM > Subject: Re: [ALSTCLAI] Thomas Langford,Lankford > > > | Hi Sherrie, > | > | Malinda LANGFORD was born in Alabama not South Carolina.
