Stephanie, Considering the 1870 US census clearly states your Joseph Schewang is from Baden, here are some candidates. https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NH55-RH5 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NHGD-SLH https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/V4BV-Z5L https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NCJD-RQV There are others that are born 1820-1825, but there are also death records for them. You would be better served if you posted your query on the Baden-Wuerttemberg mail list. http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/DEU/BADEN-WURTTEMBERG.html Please supply additional family information, especially anything that occurred in old Germany. An exact birthday would be ideal. I have five French records (birth, deaths, marriages) that are scans associated with my Lehman(n) family in Schirrhein, Bas-Rhin (Alsace), France. However, I am sad to say that I don't know French, and would be delighted to learn if there is anyone on this site willing to help with translation. I can supply a little information that might go with each scan. There are three of us trying to make our Lehman(n) family connections, but information is lost to us because of our inability to translate all the particulars. Please contact me personally, if you think you might be able to help. Audrey (Lehmann-Shields) Hancock AudreyHancock1939@sbcglobal.net

It might be useful to post a link to your scans, so multiple people can help you out. If you don't have webspace, one way to do that is to post on the Alsace Message Board, and attach the scans to the post. It is ok to link to that post here so you can get more input. http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.weurope.france.alsace/mb.ashx All the best, Valorie -- http://about.me/valoriez
