In the words you mention above, the "o" is followed by a "u" or " i", whereas in this surname it is followed by a "t", which makes a subtle difference. The tables decennales of Schirrhein list quantities of SCHOTT's (a pretty common name in Alsace), and no Schatt (never seen that name...). Etienne French speaker
