Try using Tinyurl to shorten it: http://tinyurl.com/ If you use the Firefox browser, there's a nifty little add-on that will create a tinyurl with a right click of the mouse. Also, with the NY Times, they send their articles to archives and they become inaccessible after a while or only available by paying to read it.
