    1. [A-L] GROSSARTH in Feil, Alsace
    2. Karen Grossart
    3. Hi, I am new to the list and researching my husband's GROSSARTH ancestry. In brief, I am interested in information about Feil, Kreis Erstein, Alsace: Ownership, churches, and other records. I had it translated to: Johann Nikolaus Grossart was removed in 1704 from his job as mayor of Feil by Franz Friedrich von Sickingen because he as a Catholic was married to a Lutheran woman and let his children be reared in the belief of their mother. He emigrated and found a new home in the Disibodenberger Hof (large estate) in the protestant Dukedom Pfalz-Zweibruecken. I am trying to locate this Ort of Feil. In Meyers Ort, I found two place names for Feil: Feil 1) Wlr., Kr. Erstein, s. Ostwald 2) D., BA. Rockenhausen, s. Feilbingert. #2 is a village near Disibodenberger Hof called today Feilbingert which was previously two towns, but I think that it is too close to be considered emigration and it also had a Lutheran church. #1 is in Alsace, near Ostwald which had a Catholic church, Kreis Erstein, [south of Strassburg]. Wlr. = Weiler = hamlet Which had 43 inhabitants in 1913 according to Meyers How would I found out if this hamlet belonged to Franz Friedrich von Sickingen around 1700? Any chance that estate records are available? Or can anyone see anything that I am missing about the small story? The FHC has filmed church and civil records for Ostwald. The civil [1793-1882] are after 1704. The Catholic records [1688-1791] are available, but Johann's one son was born 1687 so the records are not early enough for Johann. If the children were baptized Lutheran, then the records must be somewhere else. So I am looking for the closest Lutheran church and its records. I have used several of the gazetteers available through the LDS, but do not have access to the one for Alsace. Can anyone tell where the closest Lutheran church would be?

    3. Karen Feil was a hamlet near Ostwald (Bas-Rhin, Alsace). Ostwald was called Illwickersheim before 1789. Feil near Ostwald NEVER depended on the family Von Sickingen. source: book "Das Reichsland Elsass-Lothringen, 1901-1903" Feilbingert is a municipality in the district of Bad Kreuznach in Rhineland- Palatinate. Feilbingert was composed in the past by two towns :Feil and Bingert. Not far from Feilbingert was the castle Ebernburg, the castle of the family VON SICKINGEN. For more, see the site: http://freenet-homepage.de/ebernburg-stiftung/_private/Landschaft_erzaehlt_Geschichte.htm#III3 This site says that << Sein Nachfolger wird sein Sohn Franz Friedrich, der vorher jedoch den Ebernburgern schriftlich die freie Religionsausübung zusichern musste.>> The successor of Johann Arnold von Sickingen (d. 1660) was his son Franz Friedrich von Sickingen who accorded the free religious exercice to the inhabitants of castle Ebernburg. In your message is mentioned << Johann Nikolaus Großarth, I >> Here are 3 "Johann Nikolaus Großarth": Johann Nikolaus Großarth I, b.1645, d. 12.12.1720 Johann Nikolaus Großarth II, b. 16.12.1718, d. 14.12.1795 Johann Nikolaus Großarth III, b. 24.10.1808 d. 08.03.1864 http://www.schmidt-marfo.com/x_baum/ http://www.schmidt-marfo.com/x_baum/pages/julius_grossarth.htm Johann Nicolaus Grossarth ''from Feil'' was in 1704 the "Pächter" (owner, farmer ?) of the farm Disibodenberg (Disibodenberger Hof) near Odernheim-am-Glan. The distance between Feil and Odernheim-am-Glan is about 13 km.
