    3. Bonsoir Ewald, Many thanks for your note. I don't have a lot of information, just the letter from my grandmother's cousin in Canada who did write that he was a Swiss Guard in Rome to Gregory and Pius, sometime around 1840. She wrote to my mother explaining some of our family history in France and then says that my mother's gr.grandfather was in the Swiss Guard. My gr. grandfather was Eugene Schumacher b. 1877 Bergheim, his parents were Joseph Schumacher b. 1827 (Rodern) and Francoise Lisse (Ostheim). His parents were Joseph Schumacher b. (Rodern1803) son of J. Georges Schumacher and Jeanne Heyberger de St. Hip. I'll keep looking, this is one piece of the puzzle I do not have. Merci beaucoup de votre aide. Regiments of Swiss Guards existed in France between 1573 and 1830, with a stop between 1792 and 1814: "Gardes Suisses", "Cent Suisses" and "Garde Royale Suisse".
