Who was the person with his brother who emigrated from Plaine? Robert Carpenter ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jean-Paul Marchal" <jemarchal@wanadoo.fr> To: <alsace-lorraine@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, June 26, 2008 1:24 AM Subject: Re: [A-L] Will smeone do a short translation, please? Hello Helen ! Herebelow my translation : Quote He emigrated to the US, with his brother and other people coming from Plaine and its surroundings, on board the "Phoenix" sailing from Rotterdam. He lands in the US on September 15, 1749. Unquote "Plaine" is a village in the valley of the river Bruche in the Vosges mountains, in the departement Bas-Rhin (in Alsace, east of France). It was part of the departement Vosges (Lorraine) before 1870 (the Prussian-French war). That valley is a French speaking area down to Urmatt from where Alsatian is spoken. My line MARCHAL comes from that area. Best regards. Hello friends, I found the following on a GeneaNet website. Will someone please translate it for me? " Il a migré vers les USA avec son frère et d'autres issus de Plaine et ses environs par le "Phoenix" partant de Rotterdam. Il arrive aux USA le 15.09.1749. " I know it has to do with emigration but some of the meaning is lost to me (a non speaker of French). Thanks very much for any help. Hello Robert Carpenter, Putting names in this paragraph it would read......... "Adam GRANTADAM (my note:GRANDADAM?), emigrated to the US with his brother, Francois GRANDADAM, and other people coming from Plaine and it's surroundings (names I know are Francois MARCHAL and his wife Marguerite (GRANDADAM) MARCHAL..............." (Perhaps also others but I don't know them). I'm trying to determine if Adam and Francois GRANDADAM are really brothers, or instead maybe cousins. I have never found Adam in the US records. This paragraph was included in a website on GeneaNet and I hope to email the person who posted it. Are you connected to these families? I'm interested in knowing....If you need more details please ask! Hope this helps!
