You may be asking about obituaries printed in Alsatian newspapers, and about that I have no info. Some biographical information is being collected and presented by various genealogical societies, but whether they are finding, indexing and publishing obits in particular, I do not know. But obits are an untapped source for many of our immigrants and their children. They often subscribed to German language newspapers, and church magazines which would have printed obits, which would be much more complete, accurate and detailed than those printed in the English language newspapers of the time. It is worthwhile to do some research and find out what newspapers might have been read by your ancestors -- likely places for their descendants to have places obits and memorials. The local genealogical and historical societies in the localities where your ancestors lived will know this information. For more background on this subject, see: http://genweblog.blogspot.com/2007/01/newspapers.html -- this one needs some more updated info -- anyone have anything to add to this? http://genweblog.blogspot.com/2006/06/death-records-obituaries-biographies.html As always, please report any bad / updated links you find. And I'm always looking for more helpful links. They are supplied by you, the researchers. One never knows how, when or where they will find the next bit of information to perhaps knock down a brick wall................it is a lesson in perserverance and not overlooking any little possibility. I have been searching for years in the Cincinnati area to find further information on my great-grandfather and his trotter horse?....."Proteine"........ The email below pertains to finding obituaries in the newspapers.....just for the heck of it, I clicked on the "Fulton County" link and searched for g-grandfather's name, because his only son went?from Cincinnati to?New York about 1910..............what came up were newspaper articles on the races his horse was in, in Utica, Rochester, Buffalo, etc....................and here I had been searching for that in the Kentucky/Ohio/Illinois race track areas!?? He had been in the New York area racing the horse.? I learned anew to take a few minutes and check out the links....and want to thank the listers for this email chain ........ -----Original Message----- From: Linda H.
