    3. Hello. I am new to the list and looking for help researching my Alsatian ancestors. The last name, based on US census and NY ship records, is KUPPER. I am hoping to take my research back to Alsace to learn more. I do not know their community, which seems to be essential in Alsace. Any help would be greatly appreciated. "Kin" is easy -- any siblings, half-sibs, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. "Kith" is everyone else -- friends, neighbors, co-workers, fellow parisheners, club or professional organizations, and any other people they regularly associate with. Be sure to look for obituaries published in German-language newspapers and/or church magazines, as these are often much more detailed than those in local newspapers. My collected links about research in the Alsace: http://genweblog.blogspot.com/2006/05/alsace.html Double-check to see that you've covered all the bases in the emigration records, where the village name is sometimes mentioned: http://genweblog.blogspot.com/2006/07/french-emigration-indexes.html Researching those who traveled with your family of interest on the ship Suevia and on Joseph's ship might be valuable also.
