Hi,  I do not know if you mean they were Jewish, Hugenot or something else.  In my searches I had  follwed a lead that I thought may have been hugenot.  BUT  I found an excellent resource http://www.genealogyforum.rootsweb.com/gfaol/resource/Huguenot/ it is  a hugenot resource.  I  do not know   if this may help in your search.  if you are not sure.
