In this instance, Johann may represent the "saint's name", used primarily in a religious context and not typically used in public. Georg would have been the name commonly used outside the church. Without looking it up, I'm not sure whether the statement relates to the A, B or C lists. If the former, this name would have come off the ship manifest. If either of the latter, it would have come off the oath lists that Herr KARCHER signed. We can hardly fault Misters Strassburger & Hinke for failing to supply a name which was not on the original documents they viewed -- about 150 years after the event. My previous reviews of their work indicate that they were careful to accurately transcribe what was written. -rt_/)
