    3. Hi, I am searching for families that migrated into SW Virginia from Germany in the period 1750 - 1800 . They came to Philidephia in the period 1730-70, worked off their indenture and moved west to Frederick, MD and then down the Great Valley of VA / Shenandoah to SW VA, TN, N. Carolina. According to the ship record they were from Pfalz and Alsace. I have found German records with this surnames but most records are hard to read. I have searched the LDS familysearch.com data and found this families in these regions. But in the 17th century there must have been a lot of movement as I find the families in other parts of Germany. I hope to get help locating other source available online to trace these families back to Germany. I think religion may have played an important part in the movement of these families. Some of the family surnames are: Flinner, Gobel, Minnich, Hertenstein, Linder, Kaylor, Hopp, Earhardt, Hobbs, Wentzel, Emmerich, Volkerson, Funkhouser, Gucker, Fuchs, Andtes, Hemmery, Eva, Schmacher. Names on the ship list: Klein, Margel, Maning, Horatz, Homan, Krug, Fischer, Schunck, Flohri, Aldt, Rentz, Gander, Boger, Dogent, Debeer, Heiner, Susser, Heldmann, Meister, Werthmuller, Losch, Kullmann, Lent, Fey, Hauss, Abel, Uhting, Dech, Kleinpeter, Hauswirth, Seidel, Mey, Gleim. Of course the spelling can vary greatly, even to the point of not being recognized. Thanks. -eddie
