    1. [A-L] surname Adolph

    3. I am still looking for information regarding the surname Adolph. (specifically) Valentine Adolph. Since the family left to come to American so my great-grandfather, who was 15 then, wouldn't have to fight the Russians, would they be political aliens and would have kept their family "hush-hush" so to speak. It is hard to understand that nothing is coming back for this name. Some in the family think maybe Valentine was Frederick Valentine Adolph. My great-aunt says know. She is 95. The only name we have as far a village is Artolsheim. All my great-aunt can remember is that her name, my great-grandfather, said they lived at the foot of the Vosges Mtns. Can anyone please help? My family were not Catholic in a predominately Catholic area. My great-aunt spoke of her dad saying some tried to run them out of where they lived by riding horseback and throwing fire sticks at their door. Please help with any facts that might shed some light on the area, of what was going on in the area, in the 1860s-1870s. Thanks...Karen Adolph

    3. Hello Karen, According to the site http://www.geopatronyme.com/ the surname ADOLPH was present in Alsace (Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin) and in Lorraine (Moselle) between 1891-1915. In Bas-Rhin, mostly in: 1. Hurtigheim 2. Scharrachbergheim Irmstett 3. Diebolsheim 4. Eschbach Diebolsheim is located about 13 km of Artolsheim. Artolsheim is located along the Rhine river, about 20 km east of the Vosges Mountains. In Bas-Rhin, the French telephone directory has listings for the name ADOLPH in Sermersheim, Sélestat, Altorf, Strasbourg, Heiligenstein and Bischheim.
