Hi all, I have another French occupation which I can't figure out. If you take a look at http://www.dave-francis.com/Picture%20150%20copy.jpg you'll see part of a death registration, dated 1869, from Niederstinzel. The first word on the page is an occupation and appears to be "sicaire". The only translation I can find for sicaire is assassin. I find that hard to believe. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks. Hi Dave and listers, According to the "Dictionnaire biographique des prêtres du diocèse de Nancy et de Toul" by Sylvie Straehli, based on the register of ordinations: - François Louis Philippe EHLY was born 8th July 1844 in Niederstinzel - son of Jean Georges Ehly and Elisabeth Fromarin. - tonsured 29th June 1866 - ordination 29th June 1869 - "VICAIRE" (French word written in the above dictionnary) at Altroff 1st July 1869 (Altroff is probably Francaltroff located in Moselle about 20 km NW of Niederstinzel) - parish priest (curé) at Vilsberg 1st July 1871 (Vilsberg is located in Moselle, about 18 SE of Niederstinzel) - incorporated in Metz in 1874.
