Persistance pays. I had never used the Table De'cennale before, just thought I had enough names dates, etc. to go directly to records. I looked at gg grandma Catherine Jacob's siblings once more on the 1836 census, went to aforementioned, found her sister Eve's marriage in 1858, forwarded from Strasbourg; she was actually married in there and it showed her father, Valentin (younger) had died in Altenstadt March 13, 1841, age 38. His profession is now "oil dealer". Her mother is living in Strasbourg, profession "servant". Went to Altenstadt deaths and on the 2nd. page found George Breitenstein, born Laubach (here we go again), ggg grandfather's father-in-law dying in January with Valentin signing. Baby George had died in 1840. But did find Uncle Jacque's birth in 1840 also. Poor family. The 1841 census lists the other children, including gg grandmother Catherine, with their mother and her mother. It seems she had to send them back to Niederroedern before 1846 and moved on herself. Sorry for the above in detail but I am so excited to have found this. Now I would like some help from either of the two Alsace fellows. The marriage shows that Marguerite and Eve are living in Robertsau in Strasbourg. I do know (from another genealogical find for a whole different family of mine) that that is an area in the city, but now in what specific direction? The censuses of Strasbourg are complicated - Robertsau is in the north of the city but .... intra-murs nord records are so many and point to streets. Do I have to search more to see if I can discover her residence in some other way? Eve's husband lives in Colmar; did Marguerite follow them there? Have I missed seeing if Haut-Rhin censuses are on line. Thanks always for the help we all receive from each other. Gloria I
