You should locate the mariage record of his parents before 1838, either in Kirrberg or in Heiligenstein - hoping that one of these places is the good one. To do you can use first the TD (decennial tables) at the online archives of Bas-Rhin: http://etat-civil.bas-rhin.fr/adeloch/index.php The mariage record will tell you where the groom and bride came from. Then you should be able to search their own birth record.
