Concerning my Jacob family, specifically Eve who married Michel Dahlinger and her mother Marguerite who is now living in Robertsau, I do know (from another genealogical find for a whole different family of mine) that Robertsau is an area in the city, in those days an area of clothiers, but now in what specific direction? The censuses of Strasbourg are complicated and lengthy - I find Robertsau by google listed in the north of the city (Cite Universitaire) but in the censuses intra-murs nord records are so many and point to streets. Do I have to search more to see if I can discover a residence in some other way? Now the question concerning Eve's marriage. The so called "bans" I found in Niederroedern as well as the announcement from Strasbourg of the marriage performed at the mairie of Robertsau for January 30 (trente janvier) but this is not recorded in the Strasbourg files for 1858, nor in the actes supplementaire. Anyone have an idea what happened? Other marriages are found for that date. I even went briefly into the first couple months of 1859. Help and/or ideas are much appreciated. Gloria Ishida
Hello Gloria, I looked at your records and saw the marriage bann filed in Niederroedern in the year 1858. I also looked at the Niederroedern Marriage records and saw that Michel Dahlinger and Eve Jacob were married there on January 30th. Since they married in Niederroedern, they would not have married again in Strasbourg. I verified this by searching the Strasbourg index for 1858 where I found no mention of them. I also noticed on their marriage record that Michel Dahlinger was born at "la Robertsau Mairie de Strasbourg". I'm no expert but, the translation program I use tranlates this to be "the Robertsau Townhall of Strasbourg" I hope this helps Steve Concerning my Jacob family, specifically Eve who married Michel Dahlinger and her mother Marguerite who is now living in Robertsau, I do know (from another genealogical find for a whole different family of mine) that Robertsau is an area in the city, in those days an area of clothiers, but now in what specific direction? Steve, thanks so much. You may be right but I still am a bit confused by the statement (and I may be mistranslating (never studied French, just used it in my inimitable fashion when living in Switzerland so need some clarification: Mairie de Niederroedern ... Le trente Janvier ... (1858 at one o'clock) de releveé ACTE DU MARIAGE célébré en la Maison de Commune de Michel Dahlinger a la Robertsau Mairie .... I thought that Mairie Niederroedern was only verifying or accepting the statement that they had been married at the Mairie de Robertsau. Such is my French. One would think that Strasbourg records included Robertsau. There is no way to input Robertsau for the civil records.. I did find the couple living in Robertsau (banlieu de Strasbourg, quartier rouge) in 1861 when I found the birth and death of their daughter on familysearch. I then found her records via "adeloch" that gave the area. What one learns by trying!
