    2. Yes, I was aware of that. That first letter could, conceivably be a "T". But I don't see how to get a pair of "n"s from those two distinctly "r" shaped letters. The second letter is as good as an "a" as it is an "e". Very strangely formed letter. So, a reading of "Tanneur" is possible, if you're willing to call the first letter a "T" and those two "r"ish letters "n"s. You just need to build a case to support that reading. Or prove it untenable. Perhaps he was a witness for someone else within a few pages one way or the other in the records? The second occupation, I don't see a lot of choice on. I'd be more comfortable seeing another "v" by that author. Although, on a good many of my family's documents one will find numerous important and educated people. Seeing an advocate/lawyer as a witness for any family event wouldn't surprise me at all. I suspect my family is not unique in that respect.
