Sorry to disagree, Paul, but I think if you'll check again you'll notice the Section of Adeloch that lists this Strasbourg record, Strasbourg, B, 1609-1612,... (and the right margin of the image you posted) says Paroisse Protestante (Protestant Parish in English). Although St. Guillaume was at one time catholic (from about 1301-1535), St. Guillaume church in Strasbourg was Protestant during this time period (including 1609). See http://translate.google.fr/translate?hl=fr&sl=fr&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Ffr.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2F%25C3%2589glise_Saint-Guillaume_de_Strasbourg%23P.C3.A9riode_catholique It is one of the volumes and churches that I had previously researched for my mostly protestant family. An interesting note is that the index is based on the first name of the person listed instead of the surname, so your Maria Wessensteiger is listed in image 39. Maria, Jacob Weissensteigers...4... 22. Congrats on finding that early an extant record. I can certainly see how you might think it was a catholic record, but apparently it is not and therefore it makes more sense to read Donnerstag, 28 Septeb:. on that image as it is calculated using a Julian calendar calculator like the one here http://www.fourmilab.ch/documents/calendar/ under Julian Calendar Happy hunting, Dave Fetherston Subject: Re: [A-L] Donnerstag To: [email protected] Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 I forgot to mention something that I see now is crucial. The 1609 birth record is from St Guillaume, Strasbourg, so they were Catholic. Paul
