    2. I forgot to mention something that I see now is crucial. The 1609 birth record is from St Guillaume, Strasbourg, so they were Catholic. Paul, I would imagine, though this is merely a personal opinion, that it would be difficult in a "bi-confessional" village or town (like Strasbourg) to use two simultaneous calendars, differing in 10 days, the Julian and the Gregorian. Difficult to say more.
