I cannot find out what the phrase "selig Verschieden" means in a death record. Context: "selig Verschieden Johann" The sentence is otherwise hard to read, except that it is clear that there was suffering before death. Does it mean "the happily departed Johann" or "the cheerfully departed Johann"? Thanks for any clarity. best, Paul
Paul, you are very close. It can also go for the blessed deceased Johann. selig - blessed may be better. A different kind of blessingbecause o Death came as a blessing because of his suffering? But seeing the whole sentence may make for a smoother translation.
