Dear Sharon, For years I have been trying to find out any information on my husband's great grandfather Godfrey RUMP/RAMP. All I have been able to find out is he was b ca-1858 in France and died before 1908? Odon, Daviess Co.,IN. I believe his father's name was Jacob RUMP b 1835 Alsace,France and mother's name was Barbary C. ? b 1840 France. I think they departed from Le Havre,France and arrived in NY 4-Aug-1840, but have no documentation. I did find on the 1870 US Census Saltcreek Twp.Jackson Co.,Indiana listed him with his parents and 3 brothers and 3 sisters as follows: Father-Jacob age 35 b France; mother Barbara age 30 b France; brother Jacob age 14 b France; himself- Godfrey age 12 b France; sister-Barbara age 9 b France; brother-Dan age 7 b France; brother Fred age 5 b France; sister-Caroline age 3 b IN; sister Sophia age 9 months b IN. Hoping that you can find them in your Emigration Books. Most sincerely, Curtis
Hi, Sharon, I am infringing on your email to Amanda and was wondering if you could look up something for me also. My great great grandfather came from Lautenbach Zell to the U.S. in 1848. Could you give me any details about it? Even the ship name if it is there. Thank you. While Googling, I came accross a list of emigrants from Haut-Rhin (Alsace) to America for the time period 1800-1870. Here is the site: www.archives.cg68.fr/GetDocument.ashx?id=1454 Ewald
Hi Shannon, According to the site www.geopatronyme.com, the name DECOUVY is very rare in France : births registered ONLY in Ollières (Meuse, Lorraine), only between 1891-1915. No birth registered in France after that date. I am sending out a request because I am getting cross-eyed looking at the following. I have searched and searched Gresswiller and Mutz for an ancestral grandfather, Sebastien Bour, about 1715-1725 in Gresswiller, he later moving to Phalsbourg, the records of which are not online yet! But I did find two other later Bours (Baur) in Gresswiller. I get the basic information in Latin fairly well, but beed help on some of the names. Gresswiller, Catholique paroisses Baptisms, B-1727-1792 Fidelis Bour (Baur) Image 66 of 145 1759 (?) left side, 2nd down What is the father's name given name? and his parents, if recorded. I understand the mother's, her father. Her mother Catherina Schwenn (?) Godparents' names at bottom And same record dates as Fidelis Anthony Bour (Baur) Image 80 of 145 1767 upper right Again I pretty much understand but what is Anthony's father's given name? The Matrina Catherine Hocher (???) and following her name, wife (uxor) etc. please. Also bottom signatures. Thank you, whoever can assist. This may help in finding Sebastien. In the 17th and 18th centuries there were Decouvy families living in the towns of Rechicourt, Spincourt, and Saint-Pierrevillars in Meuse but the database at www.meuse-archive.com does not list any being born or dying there in the 19th century. Given they left from Rotterdam, the entire family may have gone to Luxembourg and/or Holland for a number of years before leaving for New York. As the name Decouvy is so uncommon in France, it may belong more in an adjoining country, although a quick search turned up nothing. Part of my wife's family emigrated from northern Meuse leaving through Antwerp, Belgium. As your family bypassed this port closest to Meuse, they may have already been living in Holland. Alternatively, the prices for transport may have been cheaper in Rotterdam. It's odd that since the name is rare I'm having a hard time finding them? I know they for sure immigrated from there because I found the passenger list from their immigration. I will keep digging. Shannon, I could only find the name Decouvy in Ollières, Meuse. I did see the family name in the indexes ( http://archives.meuse.fr/?id=recherche_guidee_etat_civil ), but didn't see any of the names you specified. Perhaps this is a place to start looking. -Dave On 1/16/2013 7:54 AM, Shannon dean wrote: > I have searched and searched but cannot locate my ancestors from Alsace-Lorraine and do not believe the info is available online.
