    3. I need help please trying to figure something out: In the Cahier Sairepa No 71 for Lautenbach and Linthal, under Marriages, 17-2-1654 is Joannes Brun and Anna Glad. Under Baptisms, 26-1-1655 is Joannes Jacobus - Illeg. Would this be their son? Does Illeg. mean illegitimate? If so, they were married in 1654 so why would he be illegitimate? Also, their son's name was Baltasar, not Joannes Jacobus. So could you tell me how this might be connected? Thank you. PS Do you know where I could find a list of abbreviations, etc that appear in these research books? Like (sign.+) Mary Jo

    1. [A-L] reposting for Gresswiller help needed
    2. gloria ishida
    3. I apologize but am reposting from last week. On Alsace Bas Rhine site. I have searched and searched Gresswiller and Mutz for an ancestral grandfather, Sebastien Bour, about 1715-1725 in Gresswiller, he later moving to Phalsbourg, the records of which are not online yet! But I did find two other later Bours (Baur) in Gresswiller. I get the basic information in Latin fairly well, but beed help on some of the names. Gresswiller, Catholique paroisses Baptisms, B-1727-1792 Fidelis Bour (Baur) Image 66 of 145 1759 (?) left side, 2nd down What is the father's name given name? and his parents, if recorded. I understand the mother's, her father. Her mother Catherina Schwenn (?) Godparents' names at bottom And same record dates as Fidelis Anthony Bour (Baur) Image 80 of 145 1767 upper right Again I pretty much understand but what is Anthony's father's given name? The Matrina Catherine Hocher (???) and following her name, wife (uxor) etc. please. Also bottom signatures. Thank you, whoever can assist. This may help in finding Sebastien. Gloria Ishida

A German origin seems very unlikely. You surely know that Bischwiller had a "Eglise R?form?e fran?aise" = French-speaking Reformed Church, beside a German-speaking Reformed Church and a Lutheran Church. The French church gathered French Protestants who fled the persecution in France and settled in Bischwiller, during the period 1617-1621. Not surprising that there are so many French surnames there. 3. Mary Jo, There is a Xavier Braun listed as traveling with wife and two children (no names given), birthplace Lauternbach-Zell. The date of emigration is 1-24-1848, to New York (which probably means they went through Castle Gardens). His profession is given as Farmer. Unfortunately that's all there is, but the information came from "the Alsace Emigration Index, a cardfile put on microfilm by the Mormon archives in Salt Lake City." Perhaps you can get more from that source. 1. [A-L] Help with surname
    2. Joan McCullough
    3. This list was so helpful this past week, helping Shannon narrow her search to find the origin of her rare surname Decouvy. I too have hunted endlessly to find the origin of the surname Higenell - Hiegenell- Huegenel - and any other variations. I don't know if it is even French or German? I know Pierre (Peter) Higenell, born circa 1754 and died in Trimbach, Bas Rhin 1785. He married Margaretha Fritz, and they had one son, Peter, born posthumously 1785. There is a clan of Higenells in Bischwiller, and there is a Peter Higenell born about the right time frame. However when I followed the line through, it proved not to be my line. This Peter in Bischwiller, b cira 1754 did marry and continued to have children past 1785. I was so hopeful at the time. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated joan

    2. Joan McCullough
    3. For Amanda, Vol 2 p80 (there is no 203 in this volume) There are three Hammann's listed. Columns are; last name, first name, birth year, birthplace, emigration, de prof (profession), source 1. Hammann, mn North, Marie, born Wickersheim; emigrated 1/1/1867 2. Hammann, w parents, Georges, birth year: 1847, born Wickersheim, emigrated: 1/1/1867 3. Hammann, ww ch, Georges, born Wickersheim, emigrated: 1/1/1867 w = wife 0f h = husband of f = father of si = sister of s = son of d = daughter of br = brother of m = mother w ch or ch or only c = with ....children example = ch 5 = with 5 children Source: 6 for these individuals 6. We sorted out the military conscription lists of the Canton Zabern (Saverne) from the years 1863 to 1868. The year of emigration is only the year when the emigrants already have left Alsace. At this time the people were already in America. It can be that they migrated as children with their parents, but most of them shortly before they were called for military to avoid the service. Wickersheim is listed in Bas Rhin. The Bas Rhin records are on-line, although I did not check for Wickershiem. No profession listed for theses three. Good luck and happy hunting joan On 1/17/2013 7:51 AM, mjwarren wrote: > Hi, Sharon, > I am infringing on your email to Amanda and was wondering if you could look > up something for me also.
