    1. [A-L] Wintzenbach
    2. Gene
    3. Charlie: (Or anyone else who might have a suggestion) A fellow in England I am in contact with has asked me about English speaking people in Wintzenbach. His father and mother are planning on visiting Wintzenbach in a month to see if they can find the grave of his cousin was downed in a Lancaster during the war. I sent him pictures of the tombstones, now his father is really excited. He has asked me if I knew anyone in Wintzenbach who speaks English. None of my wife's relatives who live there speak English, at least not that they would admit it. Her English speaking relatives that we work with live all over France, but not in Wintzenbach. The only English speaking one from Wintzenbach, a son of the ones who live in the family homestead there, now is lives in Washington D.C. I'm trying to figure out who I might suggest he lookup in Wintzenbach who might speak English. I know you were close to there, if not there, and thought I would run this by you. I'm thinking the Priest at St. Gilles, or someone in the Mayor's office. Maybe someone knows if the Mayor's office has an email address. Gene

    3. I want to thank everyone who sent me info on Sufflehneim (Soufflenhiem) and LEPPERTs. The links and information have been very helpful and have opened up other lines of research that, hopefully, will help me in my search for Johnannes George LEPPERT, who, based on the info you sent, seems to have just appeared, married, had a family, and disappeared from the records. I have the microfilms on order from the LDS, which may shed some light on this family. Regarding Sufflenheim, what I have found is that after the Thiry Years War, the town and area were pretty much destroyed and depopulated. Later German and Swiss families moved into the region. After the French Revolution, during the Reign of Terror, many of the Church records were destroyed, which is why there is little in the way of information available. Once again, I want to thank everyone for all the help. John

    3. Hello Gloria end listers, I don't known how common Valentin was used as a first name in Lutheran families. Another thing to add is that the popular nickname of Valentin was Veltin (pronounced Feltin), which in turn gave a surname, VELTIN or FELTIN. Again a happy Valentine's day to everybody! 1. Re: [A-L] Duplicate web address
    2. Fred H Held
    3. The duplicate URL is because your email client has been programmed to allow a "simple" title for a complicated link that is supposed to be hidden. This may be a result of the HTML features of your email client. It automatically creates both a viewable "title" and a hidden portion of the same URL. For example, my email client is Eudora, and it allows me to create a link title like this - <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~valorie/Alsace-Lorraine-L.htm>A-L pages with the URL for Valorie's resource pages http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~valorie/Alsace-Lorraine-L.htm that is supposed to be hidden. This probably worked correctly in the direct mail I sent to you, but the mail list software will probably also show the hidden link, since RootsWeb mail lists will not accept HTML text. To eliminate this duplicate link in Eudora (Your email client may require a different edit sequence.) I usually "select" (highlight) that part of the message that contains the link and then hit Alt-E (=Edit menu), Alt-X (=revert), and Alt-E (=remove edit menu) to eliminate the duplicate (hidden) entries. 2. Valorie Zimmerman
    3. There is no ONE answer to the question, since every email program is different -- and add in AOL too. If your program regularly doubles up the links, try selecting and right-clicking, and see if you have the possibility of sending as plain text. Other things you might try -- include or not the http:// part of the address, enclose it in carets < and >, or not, or try () and [] around it. Finally, try just the basic address, such as "Rootsweb.com" -- I rarely see those doubled. If that works, then try more, for instance: freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~valorie/Alsace-Lorraine-L.htm That's enough of this off-topic discussion for now. 3. Janice, I believe it happens when a person types in an abbreviation of the complete URL address to a web site (i.e., leaving off the http://). The system is smart enough to recognize this and tries to correct for it. Unfortunately the software designer who wrote this code didn't include a space between the incorrect and correct addresses (there is probably a good reason for this - possibly to force us to learn to type it properly), leaving the two linked. 3. Mary, I get the digest so I am usually behind. 2 suggestions 1. Try the Family History Library (index online) The municipal records go back to the 1790's. They are handwritten and are (or were in my case) somewhat hard to read. In the French the last 10 years of the 1700's were numbered from the revolution. 2. Did anyone suggest you check GeneaNet http://www.geneanet.org/ ? At a quick glance there are lots of hits for Leppert. Bob Teitelbaum
