Fabiio. you first of all need to find out EXACTLY where your ancstor came in Alsace or Lorraine. If there are immigration papers that he would have had to fill out they should list (hopefully) where he came from in Europe. In the U.S. we have a form that they had to fill out called Permission to Emigrate....they ask more questions and if there is is something like that tis is what you would need to start your research. Most of the Morman Library Family History records only go to 1875 and that could be also a problem. joe wolfe
Ewald, thank you very much for replying with the info about Walschbronn. Is there a reference book or a website that has Catholic parish info for Alsace & Lorraine? Best regards, --Karen
Karen, Before 1804 was the Catholic community of Roppweiler/Roppeviller in the parish of Walschbronn (5 km north of Roppeviller). Is anyone familiar with the Catholic church records for the town of Roppweiler/Roppeviller in Moselle? Was this parish a filial parish of another town in the 1700's? The LDS Library has microfilmed church records which cover 1808-1892, but I am searching for a family in 1700-1750 time frame. Any help or input will be appreciated. --Karen
Hi Mary, If you are looking for Lemberg by Pirmasens, I may be able to help. I have a very thin book covering the Lutheran Kirchenbüchern 1788 - 1798 (1805). Hello Philippe, Do you have any Quirin family who immigrated to northern Ohio, US? I had never run across your family name before but coincidentally it came up through another individual contact the same time you posted. Gloria Ishida (Japan)
Mary, You can search the online catalog at http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp Click on the "place" button, then enter your town, in this case Lemberg Bayern. It will bring up the matching location. Click on this and it will bring up a list of records which are available. Clicking on these takes you to the screens where you can find the film numbers. You'll need to click on the "View Film Notes" button in the upper right hand corner to get to the actual film numbers. Hope this helps. Yes, I should have been more specific. We have all of the information that we need from Canadaian records, and are looking to link back to the place of origin.
