For more info, see at : http://www.archivesnationales.culture.gouv.fr/caom/fr/ According to this center, only Robert HUHN who died in 1865 in Algiers is listed in their database. I asked a volunteer living near the CAOM to send me a copy of his death record which says that: Robert HUHN, single, student, 25 years old, born in Szudowicz (Prussia), with his home in Halle (Germany), died 21 January 1865 at 1:00 AM in Algiers/Alger, 1 rue du Hamma. No information about his father and mother (mention ''sans renseignement''). First declarant: Frédéric Schafetech, 42 years old, living in Algiers, no related to the deceased Second declarant: Félix Alix, employee, 40 years old, living in Algiers, no related to the deceased. If necessary, I can send you the death certificate as attachment at your private email address. All the best from Alsace Ewald

    3. Jane, You might also try the Strasbourg civil records. Microfilms of these records can be rented at your local LDS Family History Center. (If you still live in the St. Louis area, we have 2 good ones.) ===================== Etat civil (naissances), 1792-1882 Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin). Officier de l'état civil (Main Author) Civil registration of births for Strasbourg, Bas-Rhin, France; also called Straßburg, Elsaß-Lothringen, Germany. This contains the births only. The marriages and deaths are cataloged separately. Text in French and German. Includes annual and ten-year indexes. ===================== You also mentioned some records indicate she was from Mannheim, Baden. (As a member of the B-W mail list, I notice you have not posted a similar query there.) There are civil and church microfilmed records for Mannheim. In the case of church records the family religion can help narrow your search. ======================== Familienstandsbogen, 1807-1900 Mannheim (Baden). There is also a microfilmed book of the old families of Mannheim. ============================= Alte Mannheimer Familien Waldeck, Florian (Main Author) Early Mannheim families and their descendants. ============================= Not to discourage you, but in the case of both Strasbourg and Mannheim, they are administrative centers ("county seats"). It was common in those days, as it is today, when you are from a small village, to identify your home as a larger nearby community. In both cases this expands the scope to several hundred villages considering a 10 mile radius. BTW, there is an entry in the online LDS Pedigree Resource Files Index at FamilySearch for this family. You might try to contact the submitter to see if he has any additional information. By doing a surname search at FamilySearch, it indicates the surname Lepique is present in the Mannheim area. ============================= IGI Individual Record FamilySearch™ International Genealogical Index v5.0 Barbara Carolina Lepique Birth: 09 MAY 1808 Evangelisch, Mannheim, Mannheim, Baden Christening: 10 MAY 1808 , Mannheim, Baden Father: Johann Philipp Lepique Mother: Elisabetha Franziska Hepp Extracted birth or christening record for the locality listed in the record. 3. My great-grandmother whom I know as Caroline Lepique emmigrated to the U.S. on 16 Aug 1850 and married Ernst Fasold the following October in St. Louis, MO. All the US census data lists her birth location as Baden, but it has always been passed down to us that she was from Alsace Lorraine. I have never been able to locate her family, don't have any more information on their names or where they're from. I came upon a web site that indicated the existence of an 1836 census for the city of Strasbourg, with a Lepique listing. Does anybody have this data, and can they enlighten me if this might be my great grandmother's family. My information on her birth year ranges from 1828 to 1832. The application for her immigration says that her last known residence was Mannheim. However, no Lepique shows up on German databases. Any help will be appreciated. Castle Garden records show that she immigrated on the Nord America, origination Hamburg, that she was a farmer, and her first name was spelled Karoline. Any help will be appreciated. "Kin" is easy -- any siblings, half-sibs, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. "Kith" is everyone else -- friends, neighbors, co-workers, fellow parisheners, club or professional organizations, and any other people they regularly associate with. Be sure to look for obituaries published in German-language newspapers and/or church magazines, as these are often much more detailed than those in local newspapers. My collected links about research in the Alsace: http://genweblog.blogspot.com/2006/05/alsace.html Double-check to see that you've covered all the bases in the emigration records, where the village name is sometimes mentioned: http://genweblog.blogspot.com/2006/07/french-emigration-indexes.html Researching those who traveled with your family of interest on the ship Suevia and on Joseph's ship might be valuable also. 1. [A-L] BOSCH-1836 census
    2. Robert Bosch
    3. There are 22 persons named BOSCH in the Bischwiller and Haguenau census. Is there a Louis, Eugene or Andrew? If so, perhaps I should buy the disc? I think it is 37 Euros. Andrew would have been about 8 years old. Louis was his father and his mother was Barbara DIETRICH. There were 22 BOSCH persons in the Strasbourg census as well. Do the LDS family centers make these discs available? Thank you, Robert Bosch

    1. [A-L] newbie question on Schutt from Alsace
    2. Hi, I am very new to the List, but have been researching a man named Alois L. Schutt who once lived in Alsace-Lorraine. I think he was born in Ober-eschbach, if I have spelled that correctly, around 1846-1850 (he said Jan 1st). He came to the US in June 1859, with his mother (Marie Auguste) and father, Morand. But the ship register ('Wm Tell') shows their last name as "Jud'. Was this a common alternative to Schutt? He lived for a while in Newburgh, NY, but then settled in Cleveland, Ohio (as a gun/locksmith, where he (Alois) died in 1910. He was married three times: in 1870, in 1877, and in 1902. Is it possible to verify his birthdate back in Alsace? Or what the middle 'L.' stood for? Much thanks! Allen in Brooklyn **************Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? 3. Hallo Roland, All my family is of course from Bas Rhin (Alsace) or Switzerland and Germany but I live in the french Alps near Annecy (450 km from Strasbourg) I think you r Gfathers was from BOUXWILLER ( Bouzwiller does not exist)Haut -Rhin.the towns of HOMMER and HARREBERG are not in Bas-Rhin , Alsace but in Moselle who is one of the four "departement" of Lorraine. My family is from Bouxwiller ( Bas-Rhin ( near Saverne) and is lutheran. My GGmother fathers side is also a RICHERT and this name ( very common in Alsace) is one of them who appears the most in my genealogy. Genealogy occupy a big place in my life since more than ten years but I'm most informed about lutheran genealogy about the areaaround Bouxwiller and Gundershoffen.I have write a book about the families from Zutzendorf ( a little village near Bouxwiller and Pfaffenhoffen) beetween 1654 and 2006.Most habitants of the village emigrate to the States.( REEB, GANGLOFF, LENTZ, RICHERT, ROSENFELDER, RUCH, SCHINI, SCHMITT, SCHNEIDER, STAUB, WENCK, HERMANN ,GALL,SPRIESS are one of them). Ich habe mich sehr auf Ihre Antwort gefreut und mein Deutsch ist viel flüssiger als mein Englisch.Leider kenne ich nicht die Gegend von Bouxwiller Haut Rhin und auch nicht die Gegend von Hommer.Tut mir leid dass ich darüber nicht austauschen kann.Falls sie über Elsass im Algemeine austauschen wollen, können sie mir privat schreiben.( You can contact me privatly if you are interrested by general questions of Alsace) Have a nice sunday.
