It's been awhile since I've posted here, but when I did I was amazed at how helpful and generous people were. This is one of the best genealogy groups around. Ignore those few with attitude problems. I retyped my earlier message to make it more clear: I am looking for more information on my ancestors Klein from Strasbourg. I have the following dates: Johann Jacob Klein, Sattler (saddlemaker), son of Johann Georg Klein, (ev.) pastor in Strasbourg, married Maria Barbara Ulmann, daughter of Johann Heinrich Ulmann, (ev.) pastor in Illkirch, on 28 Nov. 1747 in Temple Neuf, Strasbourg They had a son, Georg Heinrich Klein, born 25 Sept. 1759 in Strasbourg (are there other children?) I would like more information on the following: ___ Johann Jacob Klein (birth, death) ___ his father Johann Georg Klein (birth, marriage to whom and when, death) ___ Maria Barbara (Ulmann) Klein, born about March 1728 (where?), she died in Kirchheimbolanden on 21 Jan 1792 ___ her father, Johann Heinrich Ulmann (birth, marriage to whom and when, death) Klein is a very popular name in that region and I have a difficult time finding more information on my own. I've searched the list archives, and don't see a response to your original query, Cindy. Did someone write you a nasty private reply? If so, please disregard them. This is a great list, and you'll find the experts here -- *helpful* experts. > Unfortunately, it took me many weeks to find the courage to ask my question > for fear that I would appear "dumb" and my fear was confirmed. As in the rest of genealogy, you have to be flexible in the spellings of towns, cities, even regions, because they have changed over time, and especially have been mis-spelled here in the US. The "dumb" ones, literally, do not ask questions. By posting, you have proven you aren't dumb, LOL! For all European research, you must have a village name, or at least a small region with a few villages, because that is where all the records are kept! There are few to no departement, county or region-wide censuses or other general surveys such as our US Census records. So, you must do your American or Canadian research, before trying to "jump the pond" back to Europe. I have lots of ideas of where to find that information here: http://genweblog.blogspot.com/2006/02/european-research.html Most of this information has come from the researchers on this list. For more specific information about the Alsace, see: http://genweblog.blogspot.com/2006/05/alsace.html I hope that this information is helpful to you. There is never a dumb, stupid or idiotic question. I too have been confused as to what to ask about the Alsace Lorraine area because of the regions vast history and area. We are all here to learn and assist or that's what I try to do. I've been on other family tracks of late and haven't worked on the Alsace Lorraine connections but read each comment. I hope that everyone will continue to contribute so that we all may learn about our ancestors and what they have taught us. Heck, I just learned that in addition to being from the AL area, I'm also Scots-Irish. Now that's combination. I wonder how they communicated? :) Cynthia Bolick Bolch, Bolick, Swink, **************Gas prices getting you down? Search AOL Autos for fuel-efficient used cars. I am trying to find information on John and Barbara Delise (changed to Dallas) in the United States. I believe they arrived in Pennsylvania around 1848 before settling in Ste. Genevieve, Mo. Barbara's death record says she was born in Alsace about 1818. We believe John was born in France around 1817. Thank you for any guidance you can provide. The couple were married and had at least two children, John (1843) and Barbara (1846) before coming to U.S. Debbie Parker St. Louis, Mo Sent from my iPhone

My great-great-great-great Grandfather Pierre Blochinger (born approximately 1783 near the town of Strasburg, then France (now Germany)) traveled to the USA with his wife and some of his children and their families in 1842. They entered the US through New Orleans. However, I have been unsuccessful in determining any other information about him and the family prior to leaving France. If anyone has any knowledge of the Blochinger (Blockinger) family and can point me in a new direction, I would be most appreciative! Thanks.
