    1. Re: [A-L] Help with 2 death records please 1811 and 1826
    2. Yes, I was aware of that. That first letter could, conceivably be a "T". But I don't see how to get a pair of "n"s from those two distinctly "r" shaped letters. The second letter is as good as an "a" as it is an "e". Very strangely formed letter. So, a reading of "Tanneur" is possible, if you're willing to call the first letter a "T" and those two "r"ish letters "n"s. You just need to build a case to support that reading. Or prove it untenable. Perhaps he was a witness for someone else within a few pages one way or the other in the records? The second occupation, I don't see a lot of choice on. I'd be more comfortable seeing another "v" by that author. Although, on a good many of my family's documents one will find numerous important and educated people. Seeing an advocate/lawyer as a witness for any family event wouldn't surprise me at all. I suspect my family is not unique in that respect. 1. [A-L] Robertsau, Strasbourg and marriage help
    2. gloria ishida
    3. Concerning my Jacob family, specifically Eve who married Michel Dahlinger and her mother Marguerite who is now living in Robertsau, I do know (from another genealogical find for a whole different family of mine) that Robertsau is an area in the city, in those days an area of clothiers, but now in what specific direction? The censuses of Strasbourg are complicated and lengthy - I find Robertsau by google listed in the north of the city (Cite Universitaire) but in the censuses intra-murs nord records are so many and point to streets. Do I have to search more to see if I can discover a residence in some other way? Now the question concerning Eve's marriage. The so called "bans" I found in Niederroedern as well as the announcement from Strasbourg of the marriage performed at the mairie of Robertsau for January 30 (trente janvier) but this is not recorded in the Strasbourg files for 1858, nor in the actes supplementaire. Anyone have an idea what happened? Other marriages are found for that date. I even went briefly into the first couple months of 1859. Help and/or ideas are much appreciated. Gloria Ishida

    3. Hello Gloria, I looked at your records and saw the marriage bann filed in Niederroedern in the year 1858. I also looked at the Niederroedern Marriage records and saw that Michel Dahlinger and Eve Jacob were married there on January 30th. Since they married in Niederroedern, they would not have married again in Strasbourg. I verified this by searching the Strasbourg index for 1858 where I found no mention of them. I also noticed on their marriage record that Michel Dahlinger was born at "la Robertsau Mairie de Strasbourg". I'm no expert but, the translation program I use tranlates this to be "the Robertsau Townhall of Strasbourg" I hope this helps Steve Concerning my Jacob family, specifically Eve who married Michel Dahlinger and her mother Marguerite who is now living in Robertsau, I do know (from another genealogical find for a whole different family of mine) that Robertsau  is an area in the city, in those days an area of clothiers, but now in what specific direction? 1. [A-L] Beltz vs. Beltzung
    2. What is the likelihood of the Beltz and Beltzung surnames originating from the same progenitor? They seem to be of Alsatian origin? Also, I'd like to thank again everyone who helped me reconnect with my cousin Jean. I recently gave him two pieces of data he was missing and he turned that into a dozen back at me! Well one missing and one wrong, but commonly quoted. Thanks, Brian

    3. Aida and Gloria, you are both right. No Folbertsviller in Lorraine, but a Folpersviller, which has been included in 1971 to the town Sarreguemines (French name of Saargemünd). See: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folpersviller Aida: - Colmar is in Haut-Rhin, Alsace, whereas Sarreguemines is in Moselle, Lorraine; not close. - Habkirchen is in Saarland, Germany - HAAS is a very common surname in all areas that belong or belonged to the German linguistical sphere: Germany, Alsace, Moselle, etc. Good luck Etienne Le 29 juin 11 à 10:36, Aida Kraus a écrit : Thank you Gloria, Folbertsviller is in France now, it might have belonged to Lorraine at that time, looking at the historical milestones. Folbertsviller might have belonged to Habkirchen and I had people check there in the family books, but they could not find any Haas listed there either. The registration at Vienna says clearly that he is from "Volpertsweiler" and now I will have to look closer at births at this Folschviller! Thanks for this, have to find it on a map now and if it is in the Saargemünd area! The Haas people listed at family search are from Colmar, but unless I know the name of Jacob Haas father, I have nothing to go on. Unfortunately. Colmar is even closer to Folbertsviller, it was the German Volbertsweiler in 1763, and there are many Haas families at Colmar listed at family search. 3. Aida, There does not seem to be a Folbertsviller in Lorraine; could it be Folschviller? There are various Haas' listed in familysearch for your period inemering-les-Hargarten that is about 30 miles away by modern road.
