Are there tax or real estate records available for Pike County for the time period 1830- 1850? I am pulling my hair out trying to find out more about my ggggrandmother, Rhoda Mathews/Mathis, who was a widow by the 1830 census. I have her on the 1840 census still in Pike County, but by 1850, she has moved on with her son Wiley Mathews/Mathis and wife Sarah Meyers (Myers) to Attala County, Mississippi. By her being a widow back then, it has been like pulling hens teeth to find her maiden name or what her husband's name was. Enumerated directly above her and her two small boys, was another widow, Nancy Mathews/Mathis. Rhoda is about 13 years younger than Nancy, so I don't believe that is her mother. Nancy later lived with her daughter, Caroline, who married John Attwell. Thanks for any help anyone on the list can offer. Clare L.
