Wilkes apparently served in the Civil War and died as a Confederate P.O.W. in Camp Douglas, Chicago, IL. We're trying to find out if he enlisted in South Carolina or Alabama and confirm that he died (probably of sickness) at Camp Douglas. Would also be interested in knowing if she remarried a Graves in Alabama after her husband's death. Between 1862 and 1865, the camp housed about 26,000 prisoners in temporary, wooden barracks. She was shown as 9 onths old; 6 November 1848 per 1XNM-801 and 1NTS-2D4. Two researcher, one shows birth in SC; the other one shows birth in Pike County, AL. Since her parents and siblings didn't move to Pike County, AL until after 1850, Ella was probably born in SC. Census confirms birth in South Carolina.
