Inverness was at one time known as Thomas Station or Thomasville. When the place name change took place, I don't know. Inverness was in Pike Co., AL until about 1866 and is now in Bullock Co., AL. It is more of a community or village than a town. It is in that part of Bullock Co. known as "Scotland", due to the many Scots that settled there. There is a James THOMAS, age 68, born in NC and wife Mary, age 69, born in NC listed in the 1850 Pike Co., Census. The BLM/GLO web site indicates that a James THOMAS had quite a few land transactions in the 1830s and 1840s.
