To all, The Pike County Heritage Book Committee is working almost daily, and to some extent nightly, too, again proof-reading the Pike Heritage Book. Committee members proof-read the book once before turning it over to Heritage Publishing. Now Heritage Publishing is sending their work back, so much at a time, to us to proof-read again. I've been delayed in helping the committee with this second proof-reading, due to surgery, but now that I am helping, I have to say that the part I've proof-read so far has been relatively free of errors and the photos, for the most part, are quite good. In short, it appears to me (and I'm notoriously known, I think, as a perfectionist) that the book is going to turn out quite well! The committee has been trying despearately to get the proof-reading done in time for Heritage Publishing to have the books ready for distribution before Christmas, as we are well aware that some people want to use these books as Christmas presents. Neither I nor anyone else on the Committee can promise to have the books ready and distributed in time for people to use them as Christmas girfts. I'm very sorry, but we just can't make that promise. We are completely dependent on Heritage Publishing at this point. They have promised us that the books WILL be ready before Christmas, but we really have to wait and see. I can only say that the Pike County Heritage Book Committee has done, and is doing, its utmost to see that the books get out to purchasers well before Christmas. I want to add that all of us on the Committee are absolutely awed and humbled by the responses we got for contributions to this book. Many people from Texas and other states contributed information about their Pike ancestors. It is fascinating to read all these wonderful stories and to look at all the photos sent in. ...We might already have the book ready for distribution if it had been the size Heritage Publishing projected -- but we received many more stories and photos than they expected, so the book is larger, and it therefore is requiring more time to publish. I will keep this list updated on the Book and if you have any questions, please let me know. Dorothy Ann Folmar Pike Co., AL
