Hello to members of all these newsgroups, I just received an e-mail message from a Patsy Collins (copy of message MINUS attachment appears below) and knew immediately that something was wrong as it had a double file extension. I saved the message to a floppy disk and scanned it with Norton and sure enough, the file is actually W32.Badtrans.13312@mm which is definitely a virus that has been circulating. Here is the way the message looks: Subject: Re: Sims family in Alabama (Lowndes and Pike, eventually) Date: Mon, 30 Jul 2001 11:48:23 -0500 (CDT) From: "Patsy Collins" <patsycollins@surfglobal.net> To: <djsevert@ionet.net> 'Doug and Joyce Severt' wrote: ==== - Good Morning Colleen, and all the other Sims who posted - - Our Sims list should be active for quite some time while all of us with - Alabama Sims connections repost to answer your question. Thats good - though; it never hurts to put our information out again. Notice that the message is from Patsy Collins and it is said that Doug and Joyce Severt wrote and the next name is Colleen. I am Joyce Severt and I do in fact research the Sims family, but I have never heard of or communicated with EITHER a Patsy Collins or a Colleen through any newsgroup or personal e-mail. A word to the wise to anyone who reads this, NEVER, ABSOLUTELY Never open a file with a double file extension. Save anything you suspect to a floppy and use your virus program to check it for viruses. What a pity that otherwise talented people resort to this type of activity to get their jollies. I find them to be despicable! Sincerely, Joyce Sims Severt -- "Tell me and I forget. Show me and I remember. Involve me and I learn."
