    1. [AL-PIKE] Obituary of Jane M. Wood
    2. Thanks to Ronald Bridges for posting this originally in 1999, this is a re-post for those who have responded to Waters/Wood queries. Does anyone know who all of her children were, what the M. stands for (I have Melinoth?), is the son she lost in the army the same one who died before a month before her or did she actually loose 2 sons before she died? I also have the spelling of her maiden name as Pinckard. "Mrs. Jane M. Wood died at ther home 16 miles east of Troy, Pike Co., Ala. on Thursday Feb. 1884, in the 64th year of her age. She was the daughter of James and Mariah Pinkard, of Monroe Co., Ga., and wife of Augustus E.[vans], son of Rev. John Wood, one of the pioneer Baptist preachers of Western Ga. and Eastern Ala. Our hearts are bowed down with the deepest sorrow, yet we hope in humble submission to the will of One who rules in wisdom. She was attacked very suddenly and within three hours she had passed, 'Over the River.' In her sudden death, as in all things, the Lord was good, for he granted an oft-expressed wish of her life that she might not linger in sickness nor live to be a burden in old age. She was left a widow in 1865, with a family of 8 children, 6 sons and 2 daughters, having lost one son in the army on a short time before her husband. She lived to see all her children grown, all of whom are living, escept one son who died one month before she did. She grieved most deeply for him, felling that the separation time for her Savior called her too; now they are together with loved ones gone before."
