    1. [AL-PIKE] Wyatt
    2. Does anyone on this list know of Elijah Wyatt? He started the Elam Primitive Baptist Church in the 1830's, in Goshen. His wife was Obedience. I don't have a maiden name for her. My most important question is, does anyone know if he had a son, William C. Wyatt? This William C. Wyatt's daughter, Elizabeth married a Jeffcoat. This William C. Wyatt moved to Autauga County. His wife was Mariam Wright. They were supposed to have been from GA originally. Any help would be so appreciated. Thank you!!! MaryMargaret

I would advise a hearty dose of skepticism in your dealings with this William C. WYATT / Marium WRIGHT family. First of all, I have yet to see a shred of evidence that his middle name was Conquest--and if you run across such evidence, PLEASE let me know! Secondly, I have grave doubts that John Nicholas FOLMAR's second wife Elizabeth was a daughter of William C. WYATT and Marium WRIGHT, although I do tend to believe she was a WYATT. Thomas Eugene WYATT (editor of the Clanton, AL Union-Banner) published a little booklet he wrote in 1938 about his WYATT family. He says: "The issue of Bucky and Marium Wyatt consisted of six sons and four [sic] daughters. The boys were: General Francis Marion, Jim W., Elijah, Daniel, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson. The daughters were: Timey, Martha, and Sarah, who married respectively: Jeff Bates, Mike Powell, and Mose Moore. All the daughters lived their lives in what is now Chilton County, having died between 1870 and 1890." He says there were four daughters, but then names only three. But let's see if we can accurately reconstruct this family. Published Jasper Co., GA marriage records show that William WYATT married "Marianne RIGHT" on 19 November 1815 (consequently, we can assume that their eldest child would probably not have been born until well into 1816). The 1830 Autauga Co., AL census has TWO "W. WYATT" families: p. 120, line 5: W. WYATT 1m -5, 1m 5-10, 1m 20-30, 1m 30-40; 1f -5, 1f 20-30 (38 slaves) p. 154, line 2 W. WYAT 2m -5, 2m 5-10, 1m 10-15, 1m 30-40; 1f -5, 1f 5-10, 1f 20-30 (0 sl.) (line 1 being B. WRIGHT, and line 3 being J. WYAT; note that T.E. WYATT said Wm. C. had a brother Jim who also came from Pike Co. to Autauga) The 1840 Autauga Co. census has these households: p. 9, line 13: W. WYATT 1m -5, 1m 10-15, 1m 15-20, 1m 30-40; 1f 5-10, 1f 10-15, 1f 30-40 (25 slaves) p. 29, line 22: Wm. C. WYATT 2m -5, 1m 5-10, 1m 10-15, 2m 15-20, 1m 40-50; 1f 5-10, 1f 15-20, 1f 20-30, 1f 40-50, 1f 50-60 (0 slaves) It seems very likely to me that the second family in both the 1830 and 1840 listings above is that of "our" William C. and Marium (the other family being smaller and, apparently, wealthier, with a number of slaves in both years). If so, then William C. WYATT was born between 1790 and 1800 (and probably between 1790 and 1795, since he married in 1815). [The other William WYATT, by the way, was apparently married to Ann T. ROBINSON, daughter of Todd ROBINSON who died testate in Autauga Co. (will dated 2 Feb 1838, died by 1840). Ann (ROBINSON) WYATT died before 1850, testate (will dated 30 Nov 1848), naming her children Wm. Robert R., Martha Ann I., Tod R., Cora Adelaid, and Robinson, as well as her brother Cornelius ROBINSON, and naming as one of her executors Elisha Y. FAIR. There were negroes among her personal estate who were claimed by one William ROBINSON. William WYATT died testate (will dated 1 Nov 1858) and named in his will children Tod R., William R. R., Cora A. (wife of Cornelius B. ROBINSON), Martha A. I. (wife of E. Y. FAIR), and Robinson. The Montgomery Weekly Confederation (14 Apr 1860 issue) reported the death of William WYATT (in his 63rd year) on 6 Apr 1860 at the home of his son, Col. W. R. R. WYATT; he was a native of Lincoln Co., GA and came to Alabama in 1818; one of his daughters was the wife of Gen. E. Y. FAIR, minister of the United States to Belgium.] We can be assured that Fatima WYATT, who married Thomas J. BATES in Aut. Co. on 27 June 1841) was Wm. C.'s daughter, as T. E.WYATT so states in his booklet about the family, and since she is in Wm. C.'s household in 1850. Her age in 1850 is given as 32, so we can assume she was born ca 1818. If both she AND our Elizabeth were daughters of William C., they should BOTH be in his household in 1830. There were only two young girls in the household in 1830: one born 1820-25, and one born 1825-30. I just don't think that both Elizabeth AND Fatima can fit into those dates. Cal CAMPBELL (desc. of Wm. C. WYATT) stated to me about the WYATT family: "I have the estate records of William C Wyatt of Autauga County, which lists his children. These are the same ones that are in the TE Wyatt booklet." William C. WYATT died in Autauga Co. by 1853--Elizabeth FOLMAR was very much alive at that time, and she should certainly have been mentioned as one of Wm. C. WYATT's heirs, had she been his daughter. Now let's back up a generation, and let me ask what you know about the Elijah WYATT was was supposed to be the founder of our Elam Church. According to the 1830 Pike Co. census, Elijah WYATT was born 1760-70 (his wife 1780-90). With them in 1830 were three young females: one born 1810-15, and two born 1815-20. Elijah is listed on the same census page as Samuel JEFFCOAT (b. 1770-80) and Elijah JEFFCOAT (b. 1790-1800). I would like to test out the theory that these were siblings: William C. WYATT b. ca 1796 m. 1815 Marium WRIGHT John Daniel Wyatt b. 1790-1800 m. Sarah C. ______ James M/N WYATT b. ca 1809 m. Elizabeth (beside W. WYAT in 1830 Autauga Co.?) Elijah M. WYATT b.1810-20 m. Rhoda BUCKELEW ( Elijah M. was beside Jacob Jeffcoat in 1840 Pike) Elizabeth WYATT b. ca 1815 (m. 1836 Wm. REYNOLDS)? m. (2nd?)J.N.FOLMAR Malinda WYATT b. ca 1817 m. 1834 Henry JEFFCOAT Frances WYATT b. ca 1818 m. 1836 Reuben JEFFCOAT Could they not have all been children of the Elijah WYATT (b. 1760-70) who's in the 1830 Pike Co. census? Might not Elizabeth have gone after John Nicholas FOLMAR's death to live in Autauga Co. with her much older brother, Wm. C. WYATT, (especially if her father was already dead)? And then might she not have moved to Pike Co., where she lived in 1860 and 1870 in close proximity to her sisters Malinda and Fannie JEFFCOAT? And might that not be why the later FOLMAR's assumed she was a JEFFCOAT (thinking that she was a sister to Henry and Reuben JEFFCOAT, when she was actually a sister to their wives, Malinda and Fannie)? Perhaps the JEFFCOAT children of the next generation (whom the recent FOLMAR's would surely have known) referred to Elizabeth as their aunt--which she was--and the FOLMAR's just mistook the relationship? If anyone has any documentary evidence to support or disprove any of the above, I would welcome the input. There have been quite a few unsupported suppositions spread around concerning this family, and we need to get down to what can be demonstrated by some kind of reasonable evidence.
