Some neighbors of theirs were the O.D.King family, Folmars. Jeff had a brother named Joseph Alston Phillips who would be our Great-Uncle." >From Pike County Alabama Tomb Records (1972) compiled by the Pike Co. PRINCE on 30 Dec 1850. I wonder if Tredway and Mary might not really be PRINCE's rather than PHILIPS--perhaps Averilla Adeline's father and sister. None of the other PHILLIPS in this family are known to have come from SC] There is a great deal of information available on this family in the publications of the Pike Co. Historical Society, including "Records Pertaining to Some Early Pike Countians" (vol. XXXIV, nos. 3&4), and the "Abstracts from General Estates Books (vols. XXXVII and XXXIX). These are available for purchase from the PCHS. John PHILLIPS died in 1867, leaving his widow Averilla Adaline (PRINCE) PHILLIPS to administer his estate. Heirs listed were his widow, and children James Madison, Francis Marion, Andrew Jackson, John Walton, Joseph Alston, Jefferson Davis, Sarah "Sallie" Josephine, and Mary Adaline (first two under 21, and last six under 14). Land in the estate (240 acres) lay in Sections 7, 28, 31, and 33, all in Township 10, Range 20 (near Goodhope Church). John's mother Mary PHILLIPS (of whose estate he was the administrator) was born ca 1791 in GA. She may have been the widow of James PHILLIPS--one James PHILLIPS married Mary HARRIS on 3 Dec 1804 in Oglethorpe Co., GA, but I have no proof that this was the Mary who later appears in Pike Co., AL. Mary's Pike Co. estate (she died ca 1862) reveals her children to have been Zachariah PHILLIPS, John PHILLIPS, Sarah PHILLIPS JARMON, Aaron PHILLIPS, Elijah G. PHILLIPS, Nancy PHILLIPS TILLERY, Mary PHILLIPS PRINCE, William PHILLIPS, Elizabeth PHILLIPS RYALS, and James PHILLIPS. I hope this helps--I'm not related to this family, but have collected data on it for a friend in Union Springs who descends from Alva TILLERY, son of Nancy (TILLERY) PHILLIPS and grandson of Mary PHILLIPS who died ca 1862.
