The old Handibook or the updated Redbook are great sources for what records are in any courthouse and in what office. GenWeb county sites also may have what you want. When I was at Troy courthouse 4 yrs ago, the oldest probate packets were wrapped and stored in the basement awaiting filming by LDS. They could not be unwrapped and had been there for several years. The oldest deed books and probate books were also in the basement but could be seen. The judge unlocked the elevator and took us downstairs, then left us to search. If you cannot go yourself, you may need to hire someone to search those old records for you because they are still in the basement, I understand. Good luck with your search.
