Surnames: HATAWAY, HATTAWAY, GANUS, FLOYD Classification: Queries Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/QU.2ADI/684.691 Message Board Post: While researching for the siblings of my George Washington HATTAWAY/HATAWAY, I found that there were some discrepancies in between the 1860 and 1870 census. Firstly James E. Hattaway was listed with Rebecca as HATAWAY in 1860 same family as the one in the 1870 census where his name was correctly spelled HATTAWAY. Also notice that in the 1860 census James is only 2 years older than Rebecca Ann FLOYD as he 27 and her 25. But in the 1870, he's listed as age 39 and she 35 as 4 years older. But in the 1880 census he's back to only 2 years older than Rebecca as age 47 and her 45. So I tend to think that the 2 years difference is more accurate. There was also the discrepancies of Robert Hattaway/Hataway his son. In the 1860 census Robert was listed as Robert G. age 2 with parents James as HATAWAY and Rebecca. In the 1870 census Robert was listed as Robert J. age 13 with parents James HATTAWAY and Rebecca. By 1880 census he's probably married because he's not listed with the family. There was a Robert G that married a Martha Key in Troy, Pike Co, AL. Is this the same person, son of James E. HATTAWAY and Rebecca Ann FLOYD d/o of Theophilus FLOYD and Elizabeth STEVENS? James E. HATAWAY/HATTAWAY was son of William HATHAWAY and Jane PAGE. Still searching for info on them. Question, who was the siblings married to? 1. George Washington was married to three wives, (1) Francis GANUS, 1881, (2) Fannie GANUS and (3) Martha F. BLACKMAN/BLACKMON 1889. He out lived three wives. Anyone with info them, would be greatly appreciated. 2. Robert G or J married ? 3. James B. married ? 4. Joseph B. married ? 5. William E. married ? 6. Elizabeth married ? (was this the Elizabeth F. HATTAWAY possibly moved to Georgia? which Elizabeth was she?) 7. Martha C. married ? 8. Oscar age 8 ( this is not James Oscar Hataway my grand father) My grandad James "Oscar" HATAWAY son of George Washington HATTAWAY b. 1854 and Martha F. b. June 1861 is James O. born Dec 1892 on the 1900 census. On the 1900 census, my grandad James Oscar HATAWAY called by Oscar his middle name and was also 8 years old on the 1900 census. His father George Washington by this time is with his third wife Martha F. called Fannie BLACKMAN/BLACKMON. Since he married Martha "Fannie" in 1889 and my grandad is only eight years old by then, Martha "Fannie would have been his step-mother and not his natural birth mother as mistakenly listed on his death certificate by my uncle QP Brooks at the time of his death. Therefore Fannie GANUS would have been the second wife and probably the sister to Francis GANUS his first wife, was his actual birth mother. Still trying to locate any siblings of them and their descendants. Any info appreciated.
