Lee Anne is the person in charge of the program and she said she has nothing listed on this program for Pike Co. Her email address is lawofford@preserveala.org Kat Union Springs Church and 2 cemeteries have been on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Historic Places since 1997. There is at least one other listed also. Susie

    3. Have you checked with the LDS Library near you? They have all of these on microfilm and can order them into their library and you can go through them and make copies at their facilities. You can check the indexes of what they have online and that way you will know before you go what you want. 3. Hi, I have ancestors in Pike Co (Barnett) but I live in Chilton Co. Here in Chilton County I'm working with Lee Anne Wofford of the Alabama Historical Commission to register some of our Chilton cemeteries as "historic" cemeteries. While I was talking to her I mentioned that my ancestors in south Alabama were in Pike and Bullock counties. Lee Anne told me that as yet there isn't a single cemetery in those two counties registered with the AHC as historic. I'm hoping that the email to this list will reach someone who has some spare time to register cemeteries. I'd be more than happy to either explain the process to someone and / or provide them with Lee Anne's email addy so they may contact her direct. A cemetery can be registered as historic based on a number of things, I just finished registering one that has the first burial in Chilton Co., who was also a Rev War Vet. I'm registering another where the first burial was a Capt in the CSA who was hung by the "Blackwell Gang" in 1865. The next up is a cemetery where one of the men was the first Sheriff of Chilton County (back when it was still Baker Co.). The main requirements are, the cemetery is at least 40 years old, a majority of the burials are over 40 years old, and that there is some historical significance (can be related to an individual, a family, community, church, an event, also if the cemetery has unusual grave markers or burial practices). I hope someone on the list has time to devote to this.....thanks, Kat Reece

I'm wanting to find some information on my husbands family. I've really only been able to go back to his father's grandfather William Fox Hughes who was married to Lena Lee Hudson. They had five children: Dick Hughes, Gus Henry Hughes, Avis Hughes, Wilson Hughes, and William Hughes. They lived somewhere about Pike county, AL in the late 1800's. I've been able to find Lena Hudson's parents, but I'm at a stand still after that, again. If anyone at all is able to give me any information I would really appricate it. Thanks before hand! 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: mgm4u1971 Surnames: Stephens Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.pike/6034/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for information relating to Andrew J. Stephens (my gg-g'father) born in the area of Goshen in Mar 1852 as well as any relatives. He had siblings named George W. born about 1856, Joseph C. born Aug 1858 and Sarah J. born about 1861. Andrew J. does not appear in the 1860 Census of Pike County that I can find, but in the 1870 Census of Pike County he appears living next door to Joshua & Delila Stephens as well as Joseph H. Stephens. He is listed in the household of Nancy C. Stephens born in NC about 1833-34 (I would assume that his father may have been killed in the war since he is not listed). This is kind of confusing as well since I believe that Joshua and Delila had a daughter named Nancy if I am not mistaken (based on prior census records). Maybe one of their sons married a Nancy ??... I am not sure. Andrew J. was married to Elisabeth Massey (b. 1852 Pike Co) in approx 1875. They had 5 children: William Jackson Stephens, Mamie Stephens, Henry Hubert Stephens (my g-g'father), Charles S. Stephens and Lottie Stephens. According to the family information I have they were all born, lived and died in the Goshen area of Pike county or eastern Crenshaw county around the Fullers Crossroads/Live Oak area. Andrew J. supposedly died around 1905 in the Goshen area. Any info on this family would be greatly appreciated. Also, can anyone tell me who Andrew J. Stephens parents were or any additional information about any of the individuals I have listed here?? Thank you!! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
